Fractal Beauty

I’m still here and am immensely enjoying the results of last year’s efforts with my ferns. I’ve even managed to make a photo or two.

“I fell in love with flora of all types, especially ferns. Loved the sparse structure and repetition of shape – almost fractal.”

A quick phone snapshot through our back window this morning captures two of nine Whitetail Deer slowly making their way through the nearby woods. We’ve seen lesser numbers on several occasions. They often come within 15 feet of our residence…very little fear. Maggie alertly watches them while every once in a while looking and quietly…

In a previous post from a few days ago, I mentioned walking back to check on the ferns I’m trying to get started on the woods’ edge behind our home. Overall, I think they are doing okay, but I’ve had mixed results this year, which leaves me a little anxious going into the winter. Two…

I haven’t posted an update on my fern project in a couple of months, but overall, they are doing well. I did lose two ferns that I planted last year, but I’ve replaced them, and the new ones seem to be thriving in the same locations. I’ve noticed significant differences in the hardiness of ferns…
Glad to see they are doing well. I’ve moved a few ostrich ferns this week to a small berm in our yard to try to get them to start populating there. They seem to spread a lot, so with any hopes, I’ll also have a fern “hillside” in maybe 5-10 years. :)
I’m sure your ostrich ferns will do well. If you experience the kind of second-year growth I’m seeing, it will be much shorter than 5-10 years. Of course, having the ferns covered for much of the winter seems to have given them a fast start this spring. Have a good weekend, Mark!
I am glad you are still here and enjoying your efforts with the ferns. Seems to be something about watching the slow, deliberate process of nature that comforts us. And, maybe those ferns enjoy having you involved in their lives. And, if you’re so inclined keep posting images. Hope the best for your transplant, Mark!!
Yelp, it’s always lovely to awaken each morning to find I might have another day to enjoy!
