“Meals make the society, hold the fabric together in lots of ways that were charming and interesting and intoxicating to me. The perfect meal, or the best meals, occur in a context that frequently has very little to do with the food itself.”

“Food is everything we are. It’s an extension of nationalist feeling, ethnic feeling, your personal history, your province, your region, your tribe, your grandma. It’s inseparable from those from the get-go.”

~ Anthony Bourdain ~

I’m not a foodie and I don’t profess to know a lot about food.  So, I’m not in any position to say what’s good or what’s better.  This isn’t about that.  Food often represents memories to me and many of those memories were made while traveling or dining/visiting with others.  The list below are a few of my significant ‘Memory Item Dishes,’ where I discovered them, and where remembering them takes me.  If I’m lucky this list will grow…I certainly hope so.    ~ Earl

Tuscan Lasagna

“Osteria Le Panzanelle” de Nada Michelass

So light, so creamy, so fresh tasting, so delicious.

“Nada” was a recommendation from Frodor’s Guide and yes, Jason, You were absolutely right!”

Grilled Sea Bass

“Benvenuti al Ristorante
 Gambero Rosso”

Fresh, lightly crusted, flaky, perfectly prepared fish. My mouth waters just thinking of that first bite.

Great friends, excellent food, good drink, and a seat in the shade on a very hot day with a beautiful Cinque Terre Italian coastal view…what’s not to like?

Lobster Pot Pie

“The Mill Room”, Boar’s Head Resort

Lobster, Sweet Peas, Potato, Corn, Leeks, Garlic Emulsion House Biscuit Crumble…all fresh ingredients from local farmers & artisans…and the results are evident in the remarkable fresh opulent taste.

A wonderful birthday week and a long overdue road trip for Bonnie and I to a four-star resort…most appreciated and enjoyed.

A cup of Peanut (Soup)

“The Mill Room”, Boar’s Head Resort

A Boar’s Head Tradition…and a surprisingly wonderful treat for me. Not what I expected from the name. A taste which is lighter than one would expect but with complex multiple layers.  I think you’ll have to try it to understand it.

Another “find” during a wonderful birthday week and a long overdue roadtrip for Bonnie and I to a four-star resort…most appreciated and enjoyed.

Steak Hamburger

Thirsty Turtle Burgers & BBQ

A thick 100% certified Angus Beef patty cooked just the way you like it with the standard American fixings (lettuce, tomato, onion) on a fresh bun.

What made this such a “special” hamburger?  Well, it probably had as much to do with the location (Big Timber, MT) as well as it was a period in our RV travels when we hadn’t been able to find a really good fresh burger for a while.  That combination definitely made it a memory item and so far it still holds it’s position.
