1977-1979Pompeii, Italy & Naples, ItalyMembers of my Flight rented a tour bus and made one trip to Pompeii and Naples during long break.
1977-1979Corfu, GreeceDuring a long break a group from my Flight took the overnight ferry to Corfu, Greece, sleeping on the open deck. We awoke as we were pulling into the harbor at Corfu...a wonderful way to travel and arrive. We would then have rooms at a small hotel and rent scooters to explore the island with. Great time.
1977-1979Rome, ItalyMembers of my Flight rented a tour bus and made one trip to Rome during long break. Long drive but nice...and crowded.
1977-1979Innsbruck & Salzburg, Austria, Munich & Lake Chiemsee, GermanyBy an agreement with all four Flights, we each got an extra-long long break. My Flight (about 40 of us) rented a whole train sleeper car to Austria and Germany. We stayed at a US Military Rec Facility at Lake Chiemsee. We slept most of the way up the eastern coast of Italy and the train car was automatically routed to our final destination. We were in Germany during the Festival of the Flesh (Feb)...a great time but very tiring. Lots more sleeping on the way back! :-)

1977-1979From RAF Chicksands to London, England.Made several train trips to London on weekends during my class at RAF Chicksands. An interesting and wonderful historic city.
1977-1979From RAF Chicksands to Scotland. After the end of my class at RAF Chicksands I took 10 days leave (time off,) caught a train to Edinburgh, Scotland, and then backpacked/camped/hitchhiked around Scotland. Wonderful experience and met some great locals. Then returned to San Vito, Italy, via the long route...military plane to Germany and then a milk-run train down the whole of Italy's east coast while mostly taking turns sitting on luggage or standing in the train passageway along with dozens of local Italians, most all of whom were very friendly and polite. It was an experience I've never forgotten.
