Pine forest reflections in a nature preserve pond near Carrabelle, FL – @APR2015

I’ve been absent from the Internet in most ways since last Christmas, except for a single comment on a friend’s blog.   A Christmas guest brought Bonnie and me an unintentional present during their visit, Covid.  We were fully vaccinated and boosted, so it affected us like a nasty head cold with a few additional aches, but as we’ve not even had any illness, even a cold, for the last four years, it seemed worse at the time.  We’ve gotten “soft,” I guess.  Still, we tested positive into the new year for 12 days, and even after testing negative, I’ve felt tired; pretty typical symptoms.

What with being homebound for a while and not feeling particularly adventurous, we rearranged our little home nest.  With Bonnie’s prompting, part of this was deciding to have a photo of mine printed to hang on a wall behind our couch.   Because of the size of the wall and sofa, it needed to be large, so I found a place that did custom-size canvas printing and framing, and we ended up going with 34″ x 60″.  The abstract look and earth colors work in the room, and I’m satisfied with the quality of the print.  I thought I’d share.

A belated Happy New Year to everyone!

  1. Good to see you feeling at least well enough to poke your head up. The print looks terrific Earl. I hope you both are on your way to full recovery. I ended up with a flu bug, which of course also had concerns of actually being Covid, but after 3 negative home tests spaced throughout the ordeal when I was deep into symptoms, I concluded I was lucky. However, one of my wife’s friends who we had dinner with about a week before the whole thing started came down with Covid which increased the concerns. The difference being she has tested positive on the home tests, back then and even just the past couple days. It’s all getting so tricky to avoid without going back into full lockdowns / masks, etc or even know – do I really, really have it, or is the test wrong, etc.

At least you got a nice looking piece of wall art out of the ordeal. ;-) Although I am sure you would have rather skipped it altogether.

    • I hope you’ve recovered from that flu bug, Mark. That can be worse than COVID in some cases. We’re both feeling pretty “normal” now. Our positive COVID tests and then, finally, the negative tests were all home tests. I know there are some false results, but I feel confident the positive was accurate as the person who “shared” with us also tested positive. We’ve seen more people wearing masks recently when out in public, but most don’t seem to be taking any precautions. Thanks for your kind words about the print. I’m pleased with it in any case.

  2. People are so many different reactions and recovery times with covid. I’m sure the gift was not what they wanted to share with you. I hope and pray for a quick recovery for all three of you. Like Mark, I had an episode a couple years ago with many of the symptoms of covid yet tested negative at home and at the hospital. Seems more people are having long term effects with covid.

I do believe you picked an excellent image to hang over that couch. Looks like the perfect size and love the choice of the canvas print!

    • Thanks, Monte. We got off pretty lucky as far as symptoms go. Bonnie did lose her sense of taste for a few days. However, we dodged COVID for four years, so the odds were probably against us. :-(

  3. Glad to hear that at least the immediate symptoms have ended, and I press my thumbs that no long-covid effects will show up. Even with the less deadly variants we have now it’s a nasty disease with a lot of potential for harm. But, alas, even being careful in an environment of careful persons can not bring down the infection risk to zero.

The print on the wall looks great, so you definitely made the best out of that less active time.

    • Thank you, Markus. Yes, COVID has perhaps joined the common cold and flu virus to always be with us, seasonally worst in winter. Bonnie and I are nearly back to normal, so I’m hopeful there won’t be long-term effects. I hope you and your family and friends are doing well and had a wonderful holiday season.
