An alleyway in a non-tourist section of Venice, Italy. 2012

Perhaps after a week of cold rain, it’s ‘allowable’ for one’s mind to focus on a long cold stone alleyway leading to a closed heavy black door.  Depressing, perhaps, but there’s rich history in the walls and stone walkway.  I visualize in a mind-play scenario; there’d be “no one home” or at least no answer to a knock on that door…which of course means you travel back the way you came and are left guessing.  So, who might live beyond that door and who so often (daily)  walks this path?  A photograph can be a question, an answer or both.  I’m reasonably sure I made this photo because I felt it was asking those questions.

Yes, I believe a photograph can be a question. I am also caught with the question of the light in this image. What would be the source of light behind you. There is a distinct bleu cast and purple cast.
