Often things are done with the best of intentions but fail simply due to poor initial planning or a lack of follow through. I feel this may have been the case with this bench — poor placement choice and a lack of continuing maintenance on the surrounding areas.
It currently seats one, if you don’t mind sitting among the greenery, and if left to mother natures continuing efforts may be lost all together in the near future.
I was thinking of all my personal projects I’ve begun throughout my life — projects, plans or goals that started with good intentions but were abandoned for various reasons, lost opportunities. In the scheme of things, there’s a vast difference between failure and regret, failure can be a great teacher but there is little learned from regret.
A man has cause for regret only when he sows and no one reaps. — Charles Goodyear
Regret over things we dared not try is perhaps the worst of all.
Just thoughts going through my mind at the moment. TGIF – have a good weekend. :-)
Image processing included the use of Lightroom 3, Photoshop, Topaz Simplify and Detail, NIK Color Efex.
UPDATE: I’ve realized this post reads “heavier” then it was meant to be. The point I so poorly tried to express was we should be sure and take advantage of those opportunities when they come, for as Ray K. expressed in the comments, they “might not come your way again.” Don’t be afraid to fail and don’t live your life in a way that makes any room for regrets. I’m still learning this lesson.
I should be more careful writing before my first cup of coffee kicks in — that one eye open and one closed thing. ;-)
I really like this image, Earl. It would be a bench I would use and with the sunlight on it, a cool fall afternoon seems like a good time to enjoy it.
Regrets, I have way too many of them. Failure, I could use a lot more of them.
I’m glad you like this bench image, Monte. There are a number of other benches in this park that also provide nice sunlight but his one seems oddly placed and somewhat forgotten.
I like the concept of the picture and the angle from which you shot it to make a good point. Well done.
Don W., thanks! Have a good weekend.
regrets are a waste of energy Earl Things you can’t change should be lessons but not regrets.
Remember “Yield to temptation it might not come your way again”
Love the bench image.
Ray, thanks. I’ve never had a problem yielding to temptation. ;-)
I really think that these benches have a lot to tell, I wish they could talk.
As Sinatra said, “Regrets, I’ve had a few; But then again,…………………….Who cares life is to short, enjoy the ride.
Don C., it’s probably good that benches can’t talk as I’ve seen what appears to be some “private” moments taking place on them in secluded areas of parks. I’m not sure anyone would want those stories told! ;-) Have a good weekend.
Earl,
The bench has history and character. Nestled in the branches, it stands the test of time. Love wooden benches. Nice photo Earl.
