Apple iPhone 2.1 firmware was released this morning. This much awaited upgrade is reported to contain many fixes and improvements to include:
decreased call failures and dropped calls;
better battery life for most users;
quicker back-ups to iTunes;
more reliable email;
faster 3rd part application installation;
less hangs or crashes with 3rd party apps;
faster text messaging; and

Yesterday afternoon Apple released iPhone and iPod Touch update 2.01 with various “bug fixes.” This is the first update for the second generation iPhone which was released this past July 11th.

It appears that what Apple introduced today was nothing less then total chaos 2.0.
The 3G iPhone activation has stalled with Apple/AT&T activation servers being slammed by the apparent load/demand. Tempers are rising as new owners of the 3G iPhone are experiencing long waits for activation. Some may even be leaving the stores without phones.

After what for me was an ex-ordinate amount of control I caved in today and ordered an Apple iPod Touch.
Apple introduced the original iPhone on June 29th 2007 followed by the iPod Touch on September 5th 2007, which was based on the same form factor and Multi-touch OS user interface.
