Awakened

Awakened
“It’s strange indeed how memories can lie dormant in a man’s mind for so many years. Yet those memories can be awakened and brought forth fresh and new, just by something you’ve seen, or something you’ve heard, or the sight of an old familiar face.”
― Wilson Rawls, Where the Red Fern Grows
When creating some of these stylized or abstracted pieces, thoughts and memories of the past often come to mind, much as one might flip through a Rolodex (for all you youngsters, look it up.) The interesting thing is, I don’t always know what triggers the specific recalls. Perhaps the left and right sides of my brain are operating independently in these brief moments.

A certain smell will do it for me now and then. I remember visiting a friend and when I entered her musty garage I immediately remembered my grandfather’s garage with that same smell.
Absolutely, smell can trigger memories. It’s fascinating how our brains store and recall specific moments or experiences. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve become more aware of these “awakenings” and of past memories. Thank you for your thoughts and comments. I hope you have a wonderful week!
If I had created a piece as nice as this, a large print would be hanging in my office to remind me what is possible. Well done, Earl.
Thank you, Ken, for your kind compliment! I went back and forth on this piece for a while before deciding to publish it, and I am considering printing it. Best wishes to you for the holidays!
This is a really cool image Earl. I agree with Ken, this would look cool as a metal print.
Thanks, Mark. I wish I could say that it was exactly how I originally envisioned it, but to be truthful, it kinda took on a path of its own and became something perhaps better. On metal, yeah, I could see that! I hope the holidays are kind to you and yours!
I agree this needs to be printed. And of course if you print it you have to hang it!! I have those same recalls and even once in a while, a dejavu moment.
Well, with these excellent comments, I’m trying to decide where I’d hang it! Thanks, Monte. Enjoy your trip and happy holidays!
