These Last Autumn Leaves

The Last Leaves, North Carolina – @Nov2025

Ode, Last Autumn Leaves

In the golden glow of morning light,
Leaves, once clad in emerald sheen,
Now fewer wear hues of crimson and gold,
The time of the season, boldly foretold.

They twirl on breezes, gentle or bold,
Waving a final farewell in the crisp, cool air,
Steadily, they depart when colder days arrive,
Gripping their freedom, without a care.

Those who have already fallen,
Rustling softly on the ground are
Now but a whisper of autumn.
Still, by their fall, they maintain purpose.

Embrace the dance, daring autumn leaves,
You reveal the changes, the losses, and the gains.
Leaves of fall, with grace you descend,
In this, your final twirl, a beautiful exit.

Note: With a bit of rain and breeze, all of the last leaves in the first photo have now fallen, leaving this particular tree bare.

The words capture a leaf’s journey nicely Earl. I am watching some of the last ones cling on for a while longer despite the first snow we had last night. The real die hards! :)

This is well written and very descriptive of the leaves journey, fulfilling their purpose and with the grandest of color display. I see that you are definitely in a cold spell. Stay bundled. Can we talk you into writing more poems?
