Shane, Bold Decision

Beginning an adventure that would take months, she hadn’t looked back once since the trailhead, as if what was ahead simply mattered more than anything behind her, and some mornings he envied that. He watched the wind lift her hair off her shoulder and thought: this is the kind of decision you don’t get to make twice.
He didn’t know yet if this was the boldest thing he’d ever done or simply a mistake his father had never made. Both felt true. He kept walking anyway, for he was sure his future lay ahead, with her.

I thought I had posted a comment here earlier but I guess I had another senior moment. I love this story and especially this line, “a mistake his father had never made.” Well done!
I checked to see whether a previous comment got stuck somewhere, and I didn’t see one. I am well acquainted with senior moments. It’s not a complicated story in this Life Frames — boy chases girl —but it is part of the human experience.
