Endure

I found this photo in my archives, made during a floatplane flyby of the Eddystone Rock volcanic plug, which has outlasted the volcano that formed it. Perhaps it illustrates that sometimes our actions, whether good or bad, endure beyond us; food for thought.
Back to photography archives this week, I think.

When a great man dies, for years the light he leaves behind him, lies on the paths of men. -Longfellow
I’m going to interpret this as ALL men and ALL women, regardless of greatness. Nonetheless, it’s a quote I’ve stored away that came to me regarding your mention of ‘endure.’
A fitting quote, and I’d agree with your interpretation, Joe; the only difference might be the light’s brightness and its impact.
Oh wow, what a view. Nice of the pilot to fly so low also!
Although flying a floatplane, low over water, is probably less frightening, I had limited influence with the pilot, to everyone’s relief, I’m sure. This resulting image involved significant cropping and upscaling, kinda like the opposite of those passenger rearview mirrors on cars. In this case, objects are further away than they appear! 😏
An interesting side fact is that the tides there raise or lower 20 feet, so the nearly flat island around the column changes size. Obviously, this was near high tide.
Well it turned out great – maybe we need to work on the narrative – like you slipped the pilot an extra 50 bucks and he flew low and banked the plane to the point where you almost fell out the open door as you leaned out with your wide angle lens – but you ultimately got the shot.
Heck, maybe I need to hire you as my ghost writer! 😂
If you only need one post about every 6 months or so, i’m your guy ;)
Quite an interesting and amazing formation!
It amazes me that the trees and other plants have survived on the structure as well as they have.
Absolutely stunning photo!!!! I’d say is was well worth giving the pilot 50 bucks.
Thanks, Monte! I might have gotten an even better photo if I’d thought of tossing the pilot 50 bucks.
