Moods And Emotions

Moods and Emotions
“Moods are not to be confused with emotions. Moods will dispose you to having an emotion. Certain moods you’re more likely to get angry than others, as we all know, but emotion is not the same as mood. Emotions, I think, always have to do with agitated forms of desire. Whenever you’re in an emotional state, you have some sort of agitated desire. So, emotions are fairly special — I am not always in some sort of emotional state or other, but I think I am always in some mood or other.”
― John Rogers Searle
I’m not sure if it was from mood, emotion, or a combination of both that inspired me to create this image, as well as the previous fern print I posted. The fern print was more of a struggle, while this one felt more natural and organic. In both images, I had a desire to create something visually appealing that I liked and that would capture a viewer’s attention for at least a few moments as they took it all in. I’m not sure, in any case, how one measures final success, but I’m finding the effort to be its own reward.

I like this more than the ferns. Seems a bit more natural (if that’s possible with those colors). The vibrance being within the same color range is less jarring which helps.
Absolutely, it’s “punchy” and stylized, not so realistic, natural or restrained. If printed and displayed, it would definately grab attention, like a bright red mini cocktail dress on an attractive woman, only a lot less so. Haha! 😎 (edited 11/20)
I think this has more complimentary colors that probably contributes to the appeal. I’d say final success is measured by whether or not the file ultimately ends up in your computer trash folder. :)
There was a point where I had to choose the color saturation level, and after some consideration, I went with high saturation settings. I wanted the impact; realism wasn’t a goal. It kinda “screams” at me, and perhaps that’s how I feel about how commercial Christmas has become. No, not in the trash!
This image excites my emotions probably due to the colors and saturation but that could be from my mood. I had to smile when you mentioned the bright red mini cocktail dress on an attractive woman, which of course raised my emotions. Well done, my friend. I hope you keep this up. I’m enjoying them.
Thanks, Monte. I’m sure there will be others.
