Autumn Fern In Fall
Last night was colder, dropping briefly to the 39°F range, but the next ten days’ lows shouldn’t fall below the 40s. I don’t think there was significant rainfall this past week, perhaps not more than a little over an inch total, even though it was wet and drizzly for several days. However, the ferns are happy at the moment. After surviving a winter and summer on their own, except for a bit of watering, I’ve promoted the ferns from a Fern Project to a Fern Patch. 😉
It’s hard to believe it’s already November.

Our ferns have not liked the drought we are in, even though we’ve been watering some. Guess I won’t know until spring the complete impact.
I watered ours throughout the summer as I had a couple of new ones I set out in the spring. Some varieties seem more sensitive than others. I’ve got a couple of Japanese Painted Ferns that will wilt flat to the ground if there is not enough water, but some others seem fairly hardy even when dry. Fair to say, I will not be setting out any additional Japanese Painted Ferns. 😏

I hope they become a bit more durable as they mature, so I won’t need to water them as often —or possibly not at all. I haven’t seen any apparent signs of them spreading or multiplying yet, which is making me wonder if I’ve done something wrong or if I’m just being impatient.
