Original ELEVATOR Sign, Chimney Rock, Chimney Rock State Park, North Carolina (2022)

I’m not a huge fan of monochromatic color images, but I felt the above photo treatment was somewhat fitting.   These are the original elevator sign letters from the elevator’s public opening in May 1949. The elevator itself has had problems and has been reworked numerous times, with the latest successful Otis elevator turned back over to NC State Parks and opened to the public in late June 2018.

The signage, however, has functioned perfectly for 70+ years requiring only a little paint and recognition of its historical value. 😉

  1. It can definitely be seen for miles! And, there is nothing wrong with playing with our software .

    • I believe back in 1949, having an elevator to the top cut through solid rock in a semi-remote location was probably a big deal. With over 500 steps being the only other way to reach the top of the attraction, it kind of still is. LOL
