One of the advantages of RVing is having a familiar roof over your head, no matter where you may travel. Unfortunately, without some TLC that familiar roof may not feel so cozy as it begins to look worn, dirty or perhaps leak!
The two most common RV roofs are rubber membrane roofs (EPDM/TPO) or fiberglass roofs. Our 5th Wheel RV has a rubber membrane roof and a twice a year cleaning is recommend in order to keep it at it’s best. We’ve had our 5th Wheel only a few months but we bought it as a 2014 model after the 2015’s were released so it’d been setting outdoors for a number of months before we purchased it.
Most RV parks have restrictions on using their water to clean RVs. I cleaned our RV’s roof with a product which doesn’t require pre-washing or rinsing — Protect ALL 67128 Rubber Roof Cleaner. Cleaning was done mostly “standing up” with a sponge mop and a bucket of water and a spray container of the roof cleaner. I used a soft bristle brush when necessary to remove stubborn grime and over the side edges. There was no rinsing and runoff keeping the rest of RV clean and dry allowing cleaning of the roof at the campground. It took less then a gallon to clean the whole roof and a couple of hours of work.
In the photo above you can see the before and after state of the roof as I was cleaning it at Carrabella Beach. UV protection is also provided with this product.
So even among all the dreams of freedom and escape an RV lifestyle evokes there’s still a reality of having chores to do. :-)
Not a bad replacement chore for mowing the grass I’d say. :-)
LOL, you may indeed be right, Mark! You know, this is the first Spring I haven’t had severe allergies. We managed to miss it with our travels.
And, no snow to shovel. But, you don’t want to slip and fall.
Nope, no snow, Monte. But I’m going have to climb on the roof before we leave this location and sweep clean the top of the slides before closing them from all the “stuff” that has dropped from these big trees and Spanish Moss. I don’t like heights so I’m always very careful when I climb up on top. :-)
