Mushrooms loving the hot and wet weather of the 2013 summer in NC – Salisbury, NC.

During all of the recent heat, rain and high humidity we’ve experiencing this summer, I’ve observed an over abundance of mushrooms along the trails during my morning walks.

One of many mushrooms found about the forest in the summer of 2013 – Salisbury, NC.

Their colors have included red, orange, brown and black in addition to the more common white — you’ll have to take my word for it since I’ve only included black and white photos.

Mushroom…far bigger then my hand.

Not only have there been a large number of mushroom, in all sized, the largest seem bigger then normal.

The dynamic range of my iPhone 4 camera was found wanting trying to deal with the white mushrooms against the dark shadows of the forest.  I was found wanting trying to hold the iPhone steady with one hand in this last photo! :-)

  1. We have an abundance of mushrooms here, too. It seems unusual for this time of year since I see most of them in the early Fall. Your iPhone-ography technique is pretty good.

    • Ken, yes, usually we see mushrooms in late summer/early fall but they’ve been active this year ever since the temperature has gotten in 80’s. Trust me, at full size these “iPhone-ography” shots are pretty rough..but thanks anyway. :-)

  2. We see the majority of our mushrooms in the early fall just after the first rain.
