Perhaps for some sunset photos are a bit trite or cliché but I still can’t resist when a good one presents itself.
Both photos were made along the East bank of the Cape Fear River, Wilmington, NC. In the first, I wanted a shot to include both the passing truck on the bridge as well as the small tour boat. In the second the swirling tidal current patterns in the water at the bottom of the photo drew my eye. These features were secondary players to the sunset itself but contributors to the whole.
Sometimes in our lives we seem to play small parts but we need remember we are perhaps contributors to something larger.
In a previous post a comment was made about what an interesting name “Cape Fear” was and where it originate. It would seem the name probably originated due to the treacherous, hidden shoals, coupled with frisky and capricious winds, tides and currents causing many ship wrecks/accidents along these waterways. After all, the coast of North Carolina has a history of being a nightmare for sailing ships and their captains with the Outer Banks of North Carolina being called the “Graveyard of the Atlantic” so it’s not a far stretch of the imagination this dangerous shipping area would be call “Cape Fear.”
I hope everyone has a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend here in the U.S. and that they spare a moment for remembrance.
There is absolutely no reason to resist a sunrise, Earl. :)
Paul…I seldom resist any photographic impulse. ;-)
You caught a fine moment with the sun moving through its spot and at the same time pick up the truck and sight seeing boat. Well done.
Hi Don, thanks!
well, who can resist a sunset? :)
beautiful shots
Thanks, yz.
The different colours in your photos are incredibly beautiful. I particularly like the tension between the passing truck and the boat in the first image. You’ve captured a fantastic moment, well done!
Martina, luckily there was a good amount of traffic on the highway so I had a couple of chances to make this type of image. The most pressing thing was the sun was fading fast leaving only a few minutes of light left. Thanks
Either sunsets or sunrises are hard for me to resist. I do like the patterns of swirling water in the second image. Oh, and each one is uniquely its own, no two are the same. Well done, Earl.
