Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge shoreline - Outer Banks, NC

The refitting of the man cave is going well. The painting and wainscoting is complete. I pulled two ethernet wires under the house so I’d have full gigabit ethernet on both sides of the office and have begun to place some furniture. One of the wires connects my Mac Pro to our home network and the other connects it to the Drobo backup unit.

The new desk, chair and storage units I ordered are not stated to arrive until later this month so I’m in a bit of a holding pattern for finishing “the cave.” I’ll share a photo of it when done.

This past weekend one of our daughters came to house/pet sit and the wife and I made a very short trip to the Outer Banks of North Carolina…it’s only a 6 hour drive from here. It was still a bit cool but the sun was out bright with only a few clouds in the sky. So much to see and do and so little time to do them — more photos to follow.

This image is along the shore of the Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge just off scenic Hwy 12. A big advantage of visiting early in the season is “not many people around.”

What a fabulous image – I love the composition and wonderful tones. The different shades of blue and green in the water and the sky are absolutely stunning. I can feel an atmosphere of freshness and independence. I hope you’ve had a wonderful weekend with your wife at the Outer Banks of North Carolina. I look forward to seeing more images of that stunning place.

Thanks, Martina. I normally prefer mountains to beach but I still feel the need once in a while to stand on sandy shore staring off into the horizon with waves breaking at my feet.

Nothing like getting away. Glad to hear the man cave is moving along and it sounds like a wonderful man cave. Have a good weekend!

Monte, thanks. Yes, it’s getting there, slowly but surely. Now it they’d deliver that furniture….

The Refuge sounds like a perfect place to get away for a while. This image only proves the point.

Ken, Yes, the Outer Banks in general is a good get away and Pea Island is a wonderful natural setting with lots of sand dunes and wildlife. It was most enjoyable even if we didn’t have a lot of time on this trip.

Nice, Gigabit Ethernet in the office! Can’t wait to see the final masterpiece. Also, “only” 6 hours away. Sounds far to my old knees that like to start hurting past a certain number of hours in the car. LOL

Paul, it takes that kind of speed moving all those photographic bits around during backups and all — I backup over the network to a network based storage unit. With all that exercise you’re getting I would think 6 hours of driving would be a cake walk for you. :-)

Ah, yes, but my knees like to move, not stay in one position. That is the trick, Grasshopper. :)

Ah yes, the Outer Banks in April. We were there about the same time last year and wandered around Pea Island a bit. It was as cool on that day as it appears to be in this image. But if you don’t like crowds, it’s a good time to visit.

Paul, It was cool but perhaps not as cool as the people in this photo would make it seem. I was in jeans and a short sleeved shirt taking this photo. We did a good bit of walking on Pea Island and I would of liked to have more time there. I don’t mind a few other people but when it gets to the point you have to stand in line for everything it starts to become less fun for me. Have a good weekend.
