I decided to share Bonnie’s late night photos from downtown New York before returning to my Calendar Project series of images.
The portion of the title “they never sleep” was pick from a memory of a phone conversation one night when she called me from New York telling me how it seemed at all hours there were people out and about.
I did take more liberties in post-processing these photos than the first posted series. I felt deeply drawn to accentuating the bold colors and deep contrast and in using motion blur to impart a sense of movement through perhaps an unfamiliar environment in this last image.
New York at night seems a photographer’s paradise – nice work (both the photos and the processing)
Awesome photo! Way to go Mom!
These are a strong set of nighttime images. Very successful shooting. I like your processing enhancements too. I can’t imagine people out and about all hours of the day and night. It makes where I live seem pretty tame! :-)
Stunning night shots!
Like the last photo!
Can feel it’s actually moving.
Nicely done series from the streets of NY. The motion in the last one really gives a feeling of constant energy and activity.
The motion blur really gives the last image great energy.
Nice series and post processing, love the motion also.
I felt the same way when I stayed in a hostel in downtown San Francisco: the big cities never seem to sleep. When I was younger I could keep those late hours but an hour or so after sunset I start to really slow down. I must agree with the brightness of those night lights, they do call out to us or maybe that should be shout.
These are really nice. Very well exposed for night shots and good composition.
Very nice, Bonnie! :) Earl, that last photo is something else! It has a very large sense of motion in it, very apropos.
