Our drive on Thursday from Santa Fe, NM, to Gallup, NM, was uneventful — no warning lights and no countdown to disaster. With less-than-perfect weather forecasted for the coming weekend, we elected on Friday to drive the 70+ miles to visit the Painted Desert and Petrified Forest National Park in Arizona.
After an easy travel day of about 190 miles, we arrived at Junction, Texas, where we’ll stay two nights. We like having “down days” between travel days to recharge, get groceries, etc.

Yesterday was our longest single day drive thus far (393 miles) from a little west of Omaha, Nebraska, down the western edge of Iowa, around Kansas City, then east into mid/eastern Missouri.
