The drive from Venice, Italy, to Florence, Italy was our first real introduction to the rural Italian. When we had drove from Milan to Venice it was late evening via toll highways which offered few views of the areas were were passing through. For our drive to Florence we selected secondary roads to enjoy some of the flavors of smaller Italian towns and countryside.
When first announced in February 2012, I’d placed an order for a Nikon D800 to replace my Nikon D700. After a couple of months of waiting I canceled that order because I was having second thoughts on how or if I really needed a camera with so many mega pixels. I’ve thought a number of times about ordering one again and had even thought I would upon our return from Italy.
With all the alleyways and passages in Venice, Italy, there are thousands of interesting windows and doors. We often wondered what one would find if they could venture behind those doors for a glimpse of the life those who live in Venice. I’ve selected these photo for their shapes, colors, textures and the interesting play of light and shadows.
Venice, Italy After landing at Milan we rented a car and drove about three hours to the Hotel Tritone located in Mestre, a 30 minute bus ride outside of Venice. There’s many hotels in Venice proper but staying at one means you have to haul you luggage via water taxi or water bus…not something we wanted to do. We purchased a pass which gave us free access to the both the regular buses lines and the Venice water buses for a 24 hour period so we could hop on and off at our discretion.
First and foremost for all following posts on our trip to northern Italy — we had a grand time. Friends of ours who accompanied us had done the planning for this trip based upon a similar highly recommended trip friends of there’s had recently made. It was a good recommendation and my hats off to our friends for their great efforts.
