Current work and thoughts

I finished photographing the 22 local churches selected for the 2013 calendar of the agency I work for. I’m now post processing the images to black-and-white as well as removing unavoidable obstructions from the images…signs, power lines, light poles, etc. I’m having a little easier time of it this year as only a couple of the churches were on main city streets with all that brings.

Autumn – NC Mountain Water Features

In past years my eyes and brain have accepted a 3:2 aspect ratio for photos is “normal” – whatever that means. But here of late, shooting with my Canon S90 and now my Olympus E-M5, I’ve been shooting at a 4:3 aspect, often composing with a 3:2 finished product in mind, so as to use all of the smaller sensor — then cropping the images to 3:2 during post-processing.

Autumn colors along the river bank - Earl Moore Photography

Just around the bend

While the dam and often waterfalls are main attractions of the Cooleemee River Park, a walk above the dam can be interesting as well.  There’s a trail which wanders along the river bank there with spots the local fishermen frequent evident along it. I followed this trail for perhaps a quarter of a mile before deciding to turn back on this particular visit and was rewarded for my exploration with a flash of autumn color along the river bank.
