An easy drive from Monument Valley, Utah, through the canyon and mesa country north of the San Juan River takes you into an area when the ancestors of today’s Pueblo Indian Tribes lived. Round, square and D-shaped towers located along the canyon head mark once thriving communities.

Here’s a few photos on Meandering Passage of deep meanders of the San Juan River. The park was an unexpected find and quite impressive.

Located north of Monument Valley across the San Juan River near Mexican Hat in San Juan County, southeastern Utah, Valley of the Gods has similar rock formations as Monument Valley with tall, reddish brown mesas, buttes, towers and mushroom rocks…

From exploring the Internet I’ve noticed many south-western U.S. photographers having images of old equipment or vehicles in their photo galleries. I suppose one reason is equipment lasts a long time outside in such dry climates and can exhibit very interesting and pleasing rust patterns.

Our drive on Thursday from Santa Fe, NM, to Gallup, NM, was uneventful — no warning lights and no countdown to disaster. With less-than-perfect weather forecasted for the coming weekend, we elected on Friday to drive the 70+ miles to visit the Painted Desert and Petrified Forest National Park in Arizona.
