Wanting to see more of the country north of Deer Lodge, MT, we drove north on Route 12 towards Helena, MT, stopping at the top of McDonald Pass after a steep climb.

While at Deer Lodge, MT, we drove the Deer Lodge Circle Tour. The tour consisted of approximately 30 miles of rugged but scenic dirt roads/trails across the floor of the Deer Lodge Valley…

Between the Island Park area, Idaho, and Ashton, Idaho, you’ll find the beautiful Mesa Falls Scenic Byway passing through the lush Targhee National Forest. It’s a scenic loop drive of nearly thirty impressive miles which includes the beautiful lower and upper Mesa Falls.

Multiple summer homes and a popular vacation lodge on Lake Hebgen were nestled inside Madison Canyon, just west of Yellowstone National Park. And just beyond the Hebgen Lake Dam was the perfect spot for both the Rock Creek and Cliff Lake Campgrounds. On August 17, 1959, the entire area was teeming with late summer tourists, campers and fishermen. It was just past 11 pm and many people had already turned in for the night, expecting no more than a peaceful night’s sleep.
