Eye-to-Eye, Ostrich
Eye-to-Eye, Young Ostrich

Another member of the large flightless bird family, this blue eyed adolescent Ostrich is less threatening but still aggressive. This shot entailed a measure of luck as it was seldom still and the S90 is not a particularly fast focusing camera. I found these blue eyes to be amazing and was indeed happy to have a photo.

Note, not as close as the previous shot with the Emu. ;-)

Blue eyes? I did not know that. I much prefer the birds with flight to these guys.

I didn’t realize that either, Monte, until this Ostrich. For beauty, I totally agree with you about birds that fly…but I do find both the Emu and Ostrich fascinating in a strange way.

This is a fine close up and probably as close as you’d dare get. His are a marvelous blue. Solid capture.

Yeah. I bet it would have been a real kick to see you try to outrun that sucker…

PJ, how does that old story go…you just have to outrun the slowest person with you! ;-)

I like it – it has a certain absurd connotation, which clearly gets emphasized by this large blue eye.

Markus, you’ve identified the word I was looking for to describe a certain nuance I get from the photo — absurd! Yes, that fits!
