There’s some locations you can always count on providing interests for photos. I’d say under a pier is one of those locations. This shot is looking from shore out the center row of supporting post/poles of the Apache Pier at Myrtle Beach, SC.
A couple of notes of interest: the crossed brace members at the top come to resemble a cathedral ceiling as they recede in the distance; and that center pole and cross members at the end of the row could be taken as a sort of a crucifix. This image definitely planted the idea of a large cathedral in my mind.
Last evening was a special treat. Monte Stevens, fellow photographer and blogger, had an over-nighter in nearby Charlotte, NC, so Paul Lester picked him up at his hotel and I met them at a restaurant for dinner mid-way between Charlotte and Salisbury. Good meal, good conversation and great company! Monte is as nice a guy in person as he seems on his blog. I suspect if he lived closer we could all be shooting buddies — in a way, through blogging, we already are!
I brought along my Canon S90 to record the event and since the proof is in the photo, I’ll point you over to Paul’s blog to view it there or you can check out my Flickr photo-stream below — it’s the first time I’ve ever been ‘scooped’ with my own photo. ;-)
Great meeting you Monte and thanks Paul for doing the driving and making it happen!
Not sure which pier I walked under at Myrtle Beach but I do agree with you they provide some wonderful photo opportunities. And you’re right, this scene does have a cathedral look and feel to it. I totally missed the crucifix at the end.
I really enjoyed our chance to meet and visit last night. We’ve been commenting for over a year now so it was about time for us to meet. Maybe we need to have these every so often because the laughter, conversation and food were just what the doctor ordered. :-)
Monte, I agree we should repeat these meeting every so often.
Earl, you were too efficient in sending out the photo! I checked to see if you had posted it, you hadn’t. You know how impetuous we ‘youth’ are. LOL!
Paul, I didn’t care who posted the photo…I was just having some fun with it. You did a great job writing it up. :-)
Beautiful composition! i feel like I am there1Nice work!
Glad you like it. Thanks!
You’re right…these are naturally interesting places: strong perspective, wide range of tones,
always a bit mysterious. Well done.
Don, thanks. Yeah, I think mysterious fits well.
excellent compo and angle . very cool image.
Mariana, thank-you.
My eye was immediately drawn to the “crucifix. Looks like you a great time last night, like I said on Pauls blog, like to me you all someday.
Don, your eye follow the same path as mine…to the “crucifix.” It’d be great to meet up sometime.
