Beneath the Snow

The weather has been unusually cold here for the past two weeks, but it is warming now, with only a few small patches of our previous large snowfall remaining in shaded areas. After the snow melted near my fern hillside in the backyard, we were pleasantly surprised to see hints of red and white. I’m not sure exactly when it happened, but both coral and white Lenten Roses are in bloom, although they appear a bit ragged, and for good reason. But, they’re certainly a hearty plant.

Temps here are above freezing for the first time in weeks. The drip drip from our gutters hopefully a sign of some ice relief at our roof’s edges. I doubt anything will be revealed like in your post on the ground, but an indication the moisture will be used up somewhere.
It’s shirt-sleeve weather here today, 68°F at the moment, and it’s supposed to be a couple of degrees warmer tomorrow. Crazy weather, I never know what to wear from one day to the next. Even with the recent snow, they say we’re still in a drought condition.
After this brutal storm I’m totally over winter and your images give me hope for Spring!
Just this afternoon, I told my wife, Bonnie, that I’d ask for a real winter, and after the snowstorm and the weeks of cold, I felt we’d had one this year, and I’m okay now if we move on into an early spring.
Again, you have done a great job with these images!! They are works of art in my eyes. I like the mystery of nature as many time we do not why plants grow where, when and how as they do. Still warm here in Colorado and maybe some rain later today. Keeping my fingers crossed.
Thanks, Monte. We enjoyed the snow and a couple of weeks of winter cold, but we’re also enjoying that it’s warmed up some, too. It was a treat that the snow left these two hints of the coming spring.
