This Old Place

“Old places and old persons in their turn, when spirit dwells in them, have an intrinsic vitality of which youth is incapable, precisely, the balance and wisdom that come from long perspectives and broad foundations.”
George Santayana
While exploring the backroads of the Colorado plains, we stumbled upon a picturesque scene that I felt was worth a quick stop. Unfortunately, this opportunity came after I had damaged the lens on my Olympus camera, so I only had my phone camera available for a scene that challenged its capabilities.

Quite a beautiful scene and photo. Gives a feel of what ‘used to be.’
Thank you, Howard. The passing storm clouds definitely contributed to the scene’s atmosphere. As Bonnie and I drove across the plains, we talked about what it must have been like to live and travel in such vast, open spaces years ago. When I see a place like this, I often think about its historical purpose and the people who may have inhabited it.
Even though you only had the phone this image is outstanding. As they say we use the camera we have! Love those clouds!!!
Yeah, like I’ve said, the clouds are special in Colorado. We played touch-and-go with storm clouds all that day, but missed any significant rain.
