I’ll always listen to my gut reaction to a scene even if in-the-moment I can’t explain or identify the attraction. I’ll take a number of shots using my best efforts at composition and technique and then try and sort it out later in post processing. Sometimes I’ll nail it and sometimes not but even when I miss the mark I come closer to understanding the initial attraction. This feeds back into my ability to react to that next in-the-moment feeling.
I believe you said it very well, Earl. Sometimes I shoot because of what my gut feels and am in no way thinking much about it. Something is there and I must try to find out what it is. When I look back over some images I wonder what I was doing. So, is the gut reaction really mean we’re in the moment?
Monte, if we react to the gut feeling without questioning or over analyzing it then I believe we’re in the moment.
Sound words of advice! Amazing how much the brain tries to overpower the heart at times. I love this scene Earl, I can certainly see why you were attracted to it.
Mark, thanks. Yeah, sometimes we try to reason our way through moments that can’t be easily quantified. You have to learn to trust yourself, or at least give yourself the benefit of the doubt. I’m glad you like this one.
That is a beautiful place… you captured the “moment” very well!
Sindney, thank you. This location has a special “energy” in the spring that I keep returning to.
If I don’t allow for that shared control between intellect and gut, I get absulutely nowhere. May as well leave the camera on the shelf.
