Beneath The Surface

The photo shows the bare underside of an old cedar shingle roof, weathered and with a few areas that are prone to leaking. With time and moisture, the wood grains have been strengthened, and there is some discoloration on some of the cross pieces, which I suspect might be pine.
I’d guess that those leaky gaps, which can easily be seen here, would be hard to spot from the top surface. There’s probably a lesson here about not just accepting things on their surface value—a good guideline to have these days.
