Ablaze
Ablaze with Spring

I’ve been slow, even reluctant, in photographing the spring colors this year. I’m not sure where this malaise originated but it’s been very real. I finally ventured out this morning and while it’s late for early blooms there’s still nice colors made perhaps even prettier framed against the bright and fresh green of new growth. Getting out helped my mental state.

Spring Pink on Blue

I normally have a mental check list I go through checking camera settings prior to beginning a new shoot but this morning I skipped it — a clear sign I haven’t been shooting enough. The results of this lapse were the first few shots, including this one, were at ISO 1600 — I eventually caught it when I noticed how fast the shutter speed was. The high ISO setting was a left over from using the D700, shooting wedding photos indoors.

I was using a Singh-Ray LB Color Combo Polarizer — I love this filter for capturing colors. The colors in these photos are from the camera and lens filter. The only adjustment was a little added sharpness and backing off on the exposures a very small amount.

Love how the pink stands proud against the distant green trees.

Steve, that background of fresh green was what sold this composition to me.

I’ve also done that with ISO, Earl. I shoot primarily in aperture priority mode so I have found, especially if I’m in a hurry, with a few of my first images messed up because I was in manual mode.

Beautiful colors in the tree and a great mix with the green background. I do find the walks outdoors to be therapeutic and healing for any aliment.

It’s certainly not the first time I’ve failed to check camera setting and somehow I know it probably won’t be the last. ;-) I certainly felt better after the walk then before.
