Broken Sea Shells

“Amidst the sands, broken sea shells lay scattered, each piece a testament to the ocean’s journey, reminding us that even in fragments, there is beauty and a story to tell.” — unknown

Here are a few other interesting facts I discovered about Daylilies: They’ve been the subject of and praised by many famous Chinese poets; they are often used as a pollution detection plant (when the air is polluted by fluorine, the tips of their leaves will turn reddish-brown); and they are also cultivated as a food…
That’s is a fantastic shot, Earl. The colors and composition are outstanding. Nice work!
Thanks, Ken. I appreciate it!
Love this image. Those few times I have been on the beach I was always fascinated with the work the ocean does on seashells. The ocean becomes the artist.
This spot on the beach seemed to be one area where the currents repeatedly deposited shell fragments. Monte, you’re spot on: “The ocean becomes the artist.”
Overly image. So delicate.
The story behind it is that my wife was walking barefoot along the beach when she accidentally stepped on sharp-edged shell fragments, which hurt her foot. This drew my attention to the shells. So, I suppose it was an image born of pain, though it wasn’t my own.
That’s interesting. The image does not evoke ant feelings of pain…
I agree, it does not speak of pain. My emotional concern for my wife’s painful step made me keenly aware of the shell fragments, but it inspired me to notice their delicate beauty. There are many technical rules in photography, but emotions of many kinds are a primary influence and inspiration.
Love this photo. Very abstract in many ways.
Thank you, Howard. I believe Monte was correct in his comment above: the ocean was the artist, and I was simply fortunate enough to notice and capture its work. Have a great weekend!
