I was on Google Maps a couple of days ago and found this delightful pond less then a half a mile from my house. I had no idea it was there until I began exploring the area using the satellite view. Then it was a simple matter of locating a close road and a short walk.
It seems to be part of a housing development that has been less then successful. There’s only one large home in the area and hopefully I’ll be able to access this pond freely as it would provide some beautiful seasonal shots. I may stop at existing house to introduce myself and see if they have any problem with me being back there.
It just goes to show you never know what you’ll find when look at things from a different perspective.
Another example of taking a few steps to see what’s before us. Many of us think about traveling somewhere to shoot when there are so many places within our backyards.
Monte, I agree. The trick is in finding these places — they’re certainly there.
I imagine that this will yield many shots, regardless of the season, but my immediate thoughts go to thinking of how this will look when those lush green leaves start forming on the trees. Also, thoughts of autumn and the many different colors.
Paul, absolutely! I was also thinking how I wish I’d known of this pond this winter with the nice snow we experienced — perhaps next year. ;-)
I use Google Maps extensively for planning all sort of outings; I do however miss the feel of the paper map. Then on the other hand, you dont have to struggle to refold a Google Map!
Steve, I think the likelihood was no more then 1 in 10 of my getting the map folded back the right way on the first try.
Good reminder for me to do some virtual exploring of my own neighborhood! I have found a few places this way, and haven’t ventured in awhile.
