Misty Web

Yesterday the weather was wet with a fine mist in the air most of the day. By afternoon, this spiderweb between two scrubs in our yard was brightly highlighted in water droplets.

The spider in the center of the web is a black-and-yellow Arglope. I believe this one was a male as I have a photo of a much larger Arglope, probably the female, on the same web–photo to be posted tomorrow.

While a bit scary looking, these spider are beneficial and pose no threat. If threatened they may bite but their venom apparently does not cause any significant problems in humans.

These spiders are found from southern Canada south through the lower 48 United States, Mexico, and Central America as far south as Costa Rica.

Very nice dof and background to this spider web. You really succeeded in getting an angle where the damp web lights up. That’s September to me, I just love these webs (but can live without their makers).

This is a tremendous job of capturing a spider web. Wow. The detail is wonderful and the vivid colors behind give it a unique feeling for me. It seems to me that I usually see spider web photos with more muted tones. I like your version of this story.
