Those who fell so we could continue on – National Cemetery, Salisbury, NC
Perhaps someday peace will rule and mankind can coexist without wars and conflicts. I hope that day comes.
But today, Memorial Day in the United States, is a day we here remember and honor those who embodied the spirit of duty and made the ultimate sacrifice for us, our freedom and our nation. It was they who have made it possible for us to enjoy the lives we have–I am grateful.
It is our duty still to endeavor to avoid war; but if it shall actually take place, no matter by whom brought on, we must defend ourselves. If our house be on fire, without inquiring whether it was fired from within or without, we must try to extinguish it. – Thomas Jefferson
