Upon knowing the environment, the rules, which govern the creation of something chaos can often become order. When considered with Paul Maxim’s explanation below this “chaos” suddenly seems to make perfect sense. Thank, Mark!
You gotta remember that all of this sandstone was formed millions of years ago when the area was covered by a large, shallow sea. The sand has since “petrified”, forming large rock-like dunes. Erosion did the rest. The color is mostly from iron deposits leeching into the sand. Chaos and order, all in the same package!
It may seem like chaos but there is nothing disturbing about it. Nature’s chaos can and does calm the soul.
I agree, Monte. In my limited pass experience I’ve often found chaos to be simply something we’ve yet to understand.

I suppose there is some type of order that picks where those plants want to grow. Maybe collection of water spots?
Yes, I would suppose these plants have found a small pocket where moisture and a small amount of dust/soil have accumulated.

Yes, that past certainly became apparent and believable in this particular cliff face. Like you said, chaos and order, all in the same package!
