Isi, Guardian

| | | | |
Isi leans against the mossy trunk and closes her eyes. Beneath the wind and water, she hears the forest’s deeper song—the roots speaking in a language few will ever know.

She has spent her life guarding these woods and the creatures within them. Still, people call her a witch and tell stories that make her a thing to fear.

So Isi stays where the trees grow thick. As Halloween nears, she moves through the mist like the forest’s own ghost: seen, then gone.

Footnote: Isi (Choctaw): Means “deer”, a quiet and graceful guardian of the timberland.
