Zoe and Zeb, Held Ground

Zeb twitches — the same small twitch I felt from inside, months before his first cry. I was scared then too. I smile now, the old fear gone soft at the edges.
Around us, the wildflowers lean and scatter in the wind, gone to seed, but they hold their ground. We do too. Further than I thought we’d come.
