Jody, Not Waiting

The crew’s laughter sometimes lingers, but respect grows in the spaces that count. Jody rattles off torque specs and grade measurements, outpacing everyone and earning her place with every sunrise-to-sunset shift. Now the men seek her out for answers, bypassing her father, who remains blind to what she is becoming.
Each twilight, she bears the scent of oil, earth, and a plan she no longer waits on him to approve. She doesn’t need to speak the words “wake up, or lose me” — she’s already moving, one earned shift at a time, toward the day the business simply answers to her. Pride and tradition may hold her tongue, but they don’t hold her hands. She won’t ask to be his legacy. She’ll already be it.
