Fanciful Friday: Height Fright
“You’re just as dead if you fall from forty feet as you are from four thousand fathoms, that’s what I say.” — Terry Pratchett
…humm, perhaps, but you’ll have much longer to panic about the coming impact! 😨
This Fanciful Friday focuses on a phobia, a specific and common phobia I’ve lived with my whole life. Many people experience a fear of heights, known as acrophobia, and it can have a real impact on their lives. It’s completely normal to feel cautious around heights because of the risks involved, but for some, this fear can become overwhelming and even irrational. You might find yourself feeling sweaty, shaky, or even having panic attacks, even when you’re in a safe situation. It’s important to remember the difference between healthy caution, which helps keep us safe, and a fear that might hold you back from enjoying life to the fullest. By recognizing these feelings, you can take steps to manage your anxiety and embrace a more positive outlook.
I’ve learned to rationalize and live with mine, but I still avoid certain situations where I know it will make me very uncomfortable. If I found myself in any of the image POVs below, I would definitely be uncomfortable to some extent, but in the case of the last three images/activities, I’d probably still do them and deal with the fear. But the first four, I’d probably freeze up or be close to pissing myself.
