Willow-leaves…a butterfly
Floats and balances”

Mayapples (also known as Mandrakes) are often among the first plants to emerge from the forest floor each spring; at least, they are often the first ones I really take note of. Shortly after spotting them, I checked on my ferns and noticed a few fern fiddleheads reaching through the decaying leaf groundcover toward the sun. Now, most of my ferns are showing signs of life, and this Japanese Painted Fern has gotten off to an early, beautiful start.

The above photos were taken over several weeks, from mid-March to now. Allergy season has hit early and especially hard this year, which limits my time outdoors.

It can be challenging to return to a “regular post” after last week’s daily theme posts and yesterday’s post, which was fueled by frustration, anger and a feeling of helplessness. However, life continues, and if you’re a regular visitor, you may be starting to grasp the wandering nature reflected in this blog’s name.

What an inviting series of images of your fern project and spring’s gifts. I really like the low perspective of the Mayapple image. Makes me smile!!!
