Almost

“Happy, happy Christmas, that can win us back to the delusions of our childish days; that can recall to the old man the pleasures of his youth; that can transport the sailor and the traveller, thousands of miles away, back to his own fire-side and his quiet home!”
― Charles Dickens, The Pickwick Papers
Well, Thanksgiving has passed, and the tree is up and decorated (and has been for a while), so I can no longer deny that Christmas is almost here. It also doesn’t help trying to ignore the increasing lights and decorations on homes in the neighborhood. Sometimes, I think I actually dread Christmas’ arrival because it’s here and then over so quickly. As a child, Christmas seemed to take forever to come, but now it feels like it happens in the blink of an eye. For me, Christmas perhaps marks the passage of time more than New Year’s does: yes, we’re soon to be another Christmas older.

Yes, getting another Christmas older. I have not put up a tree in years, or any decorations for that matter. I’m not a scrooge just not into the commercialism that its become. I do see others put them up and around here seeing lots of cut trees on the top of cars. Trees line the front of the grocery store while the bell ringers stand in the cold wishing us happy holidays. Christmas music is now in many coffee shops and stores. I’m glad you reminded me of the Christmases of my youth. They were exciting times for me and as a family celebration. And of course more food to be eaten!!
Bonnie is the driving force behind most of the decorations, and after putting them up, I must admit I enjoy them. While I’m not a fan of the commercialism surrounding the season, I do appreciate the joy it brings to both adults and children. We could all use a little more joy in our lives.
Best wishes to you,
Monte.
