Neighbor Problems

For several years, Carolina Wrens have built—or attempted to build—nests on top of this corner post. During the winter, they also use this corner as shelter from the weather. This year, we decided to upgrade their accommodations by providing a neat sheltered “bird condo,” and the wrens initially moved in this spring. However, shortly afterward, a pair of mourning doves decided to build a nest on top of it, and they now have a couple of young chicks that have hatched. It’s the first time we’ve ever seen mourning doves show interest in this spot.
I suppose the doves were too much for the Carolina Wrens, as they moved out, but who among us who has ever lived in apartments hasn’t, at one time or another, been bothered by neighbors?
However, I prefer the Wrens, so this “condo” may be removed next year to leave a “single-story” and smaller nesting spot just for the Wrens.

You made me laugh, my friend. It’s tough trying to please all your tenants. Good luck with everything. Now you’ll have to decide if the wrens will get their deposit back or if they even want it. Goodluck. By the way I really think it’s a cool looking nest.
What can they expect from the rent they pay (free)? These two young doves have since left the nest, but their mother continues to show up at night.
