A couple of days ago, this was my attitude. ๐ This past Friday, we discovered our refrigerator/freeze had quit cooling sometime prior. It was a model with a linear compressor, which is usually silent but runs constantly and adjusts the cooling as needed, keeping the temperatures more even while being more efficient. It all sounds great, doesn’t it, except it seems they have a terrible reliability rating. Our unit was six years old, which, according to an appliance technician who came Saturday morning, is exceptional. We found out that some new or replacement compressors fail in a matter of weeks. A do-not-repair flag was flying high.
So by Saturday evening, two days before New Year’s Eve, we lost everything in the freezer and ninety-eight percent of what was in the refrigerator. We also had company visiting on New Year’s Day, and they planned to stay for a few days.
We were out bright and early on Sunday morning and found a new unit we liked that our technician recommended. They promised to deliver it in one day, which they did. It was a miracle, folks! Today was a grocery shopping and restocking day, and we will enter the new year like it never happened, except that our wallets will be lighter.
I have many reservations about events in 2025. Sadly, so many don’t even have a place to call home as they enter a new year. I don’t see that situation getting better any time soon, so I am incredibly fortunate, and this was only a temporary inconvenience.
I know this isn’t much of a “Happy New Year” message, but I sincerely hope good things will come your way.
Sorry about the linear compressor problem. An optimist would say that at least you are starting the new year with a new fridge. Happy New Year and I hope the entire year is problem-free for you.
Thanks, Ken, and Happy New Year! I’m not optimistic enough to wish for a problem-free year, but I’ll accept getting through it somewhat sanely.
Sorry about the refrigerator/freezer dieing on you and the food that was lost. Not the best way to end the year or anytime for that matter. I have had to put money into car repairs this past year on my 11 year old car. So I enter into this year with my wallet lighter, also. And, My refrigerator is due to be replaced and I probably need to before I lose food. I love the young photo of you! I’ve wore that expression a few times in life. Happy New Year and let us hope for good things this coming year!!
Yes, these things happen, don’t they? We hope they are spread out and don’t occur simultaneously. It’s not a photo of me; it’s just one I thought reflected my mood at the time. Happy New Year, Monte. It promises to be an interesting one.
Quite the unexpected photo to see visiting here, but reading afterward – I get it. Not a great start – hopefully not too symbolic of the many things that will be “spoiled.” Hope you and Bonnie have a healthy and prosperous 2025. I’ve held the same philosophy – if you want to know where the reliability is – ask a repairman. I did that with a vacuum cleaner purchase in 2024 – was pricey, but repairshop said they may never see me again. :)
I agree that the image could be considered unexpected here on MP. ๐ We were surprised by how straightforward the repairman was about the topic. He confidently listed various brands and explained the reasons for trusting themโor not. He seemed knowledgeable, so I thought it would be wise to make use of his “insider” information. Thanks, Mark, and best wishes in 2025.
