Clinging Leaves Of Early Winter, @Dec2024

“I do an awful lot of thinking and dreaming about things in the past and the future – the timelessness of the rocks and the hills – all the people who have existed there. I prefer winter and fall, when you feel the bone structure of the landscape – the loneliness of it, the dead feeling of winter. Something waits beneath it, the whole story doesn’t show.” — Andrew Wyeth

It always feels like holding one’s breath during those days between Christmas and the New Year, as something ends and waits for something else to begin. Maybe especially this year.

I like this image and the quote. There is something about the change, the necessary dying to bring the fruition of spring. Yes, “something waits beneath it.” I like your metaphor of those days between Christmas and the New Year. Never thought of it that way. Thanks!!

Thank you, Monte. For most of my adult life, the period between Christmas and New Year has felt “different” to me. I also resonate with Andrew Wyeth and his deep appreciation for winter and fall. I find beauty and a strange comfort in the “bones” of winter.
