Fall Colors 2024 – Southeastern New York State
Driving across southeastern New York State from Pennsylvania raised the bar on the quantity, quality and saturation of fall colors. Our first few days of travel were under overcast skies, but we were only in actual rain for half a day driving through New York and into Vermont. Even with much more to come, the road trip had been a big leaf-peeping success by this early point.

We had so much fun, and staying off the interstate highways eliminated a lot of stress. We broke it down into realistic and doable daily distances and even spent several days in Vermont. I wasn’t sure about posting multiple chapters like this, but it seemed to make sense with the distance covered and many photos.
You certainly found some great spots!! No shortage of color for sure – and looks like you were hitting it just right.
I wish I could take credit for some kind of master plan for peak color, Mark, but it was an educated guess that just happened to pay off this time. It’s funny that we hit peak season there, and after returning, it’s only just starting here, so we will still be able to enjoy a local fall foliage season. Of course, there are not as many of our previous opportunities, what with the recent flooding disaster in our mountains.
I think it’s always an educated guess. So many things are getting more difficult to predict these days, so you just kinda go with what is normally the time and hope for the best. There are always pockets of early to late and everything in between. :-)
