“Nothing is ever really lost to us as long as we remember it.”

Ten years ago, on this date, in 2014, we were nearing the end of a nine-day road trip through northern Spain. The Royal Palace of La Granja de San Ildefonso was one of our last stops before returning to Madrid to catch our flight home. This “adventure” left us with many fond memories and a few decent photos. 😉
That’s beautiful, Earl! Spain is on our list but not sure when.
Thanks, Joe. It’s well worth visiting. We enjoyed the scenic beauty of the more rural northern Spain and the beautiful and culturally rich cities of San Sebastian, Bilbao and, of course, Madrid. I’d love to return for a similar tour of southern Spain and spend time in Barcelona and along the south coast. We have friends who recently returned from Portugal and thoroughly enjoyed it as well. So little time (and money). Haha!
I do like the composition and always intrigued by European architecture. I’m not sure the image expresses the real size and magnitude of the building and grounds. It’s one of those things where you have to be there. I would like to visit Portugal as well as Spain. And, yes, to little time and money.
I remember making this photo in one of the few moments when no one was in the scene. I was focused on architectural symmetry, but people would have provided scale for the sizable structures and gardens. Thanks, and take care, Monte.
Beautiful photograph!
Thank you.
Love your development of this photo Earl. I’d like to make it to Spain and Portugal some day. I’ve read Portugal is becoming a popular place to retire to.
Thanks, Mark. I felt this processing worked for the subject matter. I’ve read that many British retirees live in Portugal for the more hospitable climate, so perhaps English wouldn’t be an issue. I don’t know if that’s changed since Great Britain left the EU. I’d like to visit Portugal as well, but I don’t know if it will happen. ;-)
Have a good week!
