his first week of shut-down amid worsening COVID-19 virus news feels like taking the first step onto a long shaky swinging bridge over icy cold waters. The other end of the bridge and the end of a hopefully successful crossing is a mighty long distance and each step must be taken cautiously with the knowledge some have already fallen off and more certainly will.
I included the Terry Pratchett quote because this feels like a time for a little hard reality. Put on a front if you need to and tell yourself whatever makes you feel better or allows you to handle your fear, but in the back of you mind you need to know your actions may be a life or death “miracle” for yourself or others. We’re all together in this…one step (day) at a time.
Let’s be as safe as possible, kind to others, and act like we’ve got some sense! Consider this a public service message from a boomer. :-)
What a fantastic image to go with the message Earl!!! In fact, it may well be perfect, complete with the breaking stormy skies and sun rays. Bravo.
Thank you very much, Mark. I’m pleased! :-)
Hey just FYI, the email notification of comments doesn’t seem to be working for me. Not sure if it is for anyone else?
Thanks for the heads up, Mark!
I may have the new comments email notice fixed, Mark. But it may only work with future comments. Something got reset when I moved the site. I’d appreciate you letting me know if it’s not working again. Thanks.
Well said, Earl. I have a friend who works for Seniors Helping Seniors as a way to stay busy and athe extra income. However, her conviction for exposure to her clients and to herself has place her in a predicament. As of yesterday, she may be out of work because of her choice to avoid exposure. The effect of this virus will linger for a long time. Yes, we need to be safe and thanks for the public service message.
Monte, some tough choices are being made these days, that’s for sure. Today they are saying you have to make your decisions not merely like you’re avoiding COVID-19 but like you already have it and don’t want to expose others. That changes the dynamics and certainly supports your friend’s difficult decision to forgo her work for now. You be safe too, Monte. I always seem to have a handy “soapbox” with me I tend to climb up on once in a while. Haha
I’ll echo Mark and Monte, well said and perfect image, it kind of grabbed me by my shirt front, lifted me up and said “Look here mate!”. Well, my brain translated what it said to Australian of course, it probably said “Look here bud!” or something like that. But all silliness aside, you are quite right, this is a time when our actions may be a life or death “miracle” for ourselves or others. Despite what all the armchair experts think, this contagion is in progress and we don’t know where it will go or for how long or what consequences it will leave us with. Or to use your picture, we know there is an end to the bridge but we don’t know how long or perilous the journey across it will be.
For me, my only real predicament as I see it, is with regards to my sister who is undergoing chemo for a very aggressive cancer. She has zero immunity at the moment (a side effect of chemo) which means that we should not see each other face to face though I will leave that choice up to her. But before you feel too sad or sorry, know that her attitude towards her predicaments, the cancer and the risk of COVID-19, is a very positive one. She is a lot like me in that regard.
Life is what it is and no experience is worth less or more than another. Only a thought separates them into good and bad because every experience is indeed a miracle.
Thanks, Cedric. This pandemic is truly uncharted territory and current responses and results haven’t been all that reassuring. Then there’s the thought we may be stepping onto “a bridge” without end. Unsettling. But as you said and I truly believe…”Life is what it is…”
My best wishes and hopes for your sister. I think she’s lucky to be positive, for that’s powerful.
