We’re finishing the park job at Vero Beach, FL, today and had planned on arriving back in our old stomping grounds in North Carolina (NC) by November 4th — note, planned — past-tense.
We were asked if by the end of the year we could work in a new but badly overdue park on the gulf coast of Florida. It didn’t make sense for us to drive to NC (620mi) and then back to Crystal River, Florida (560mi), when the park is only 180 miles from our current location.
So we’re traveling on Sunday and will begin the Crystal River park on Monday. This will put us arriving in NC on November 15th or 16th. We’re thinking we will add the two weeks we’re cutting from our time in NC to the end, in December, staying a little later — weather cooperating.
It’s all good…we’ll just have to put up with two additional weeks of great weather. :-)
In any case we’re pretty well practiced at adapting to change these days.
What a bummer, having to spend more time in Florida on the coast! :-)
So you have to be packing on some mileage on the RV eh? How’s it holding up?
The weather was certainly one of the factors that made us decide to schedule this job in, Mark. We’ll be in crystal clear springs/rivers and manatee territory at this next park. As a diver it’s an area I know you’d love exploring.
We’re got about 6000 towing miles on the trailer and another 10,000 driving around miles on the truck. No real problems to report. Heck, there were more things to fix during a years time with our previous house. :-)
Well, my first thought when I read your title was that you were selling the fifth wheel and truck and buying a sailboat, spending the next couple years in the Caribbean islands.
I’m with Mark, it’s too bad you have to spend more time along a Florida beach. You guys are dedicated! However, this lifestyle is all about adapting. I assume Maggie is okay with having to spend more time running the beaches. :-)
You just never know about us Monte…I always thought I’d love living and traveling on a boat! ;-)
Your right in that we’re dedicated…dedicated to making the best of each day and to be open to new experiences and change. I sometimes have to remind myself of that so I don’t slip back into the old way of thinking. Maggie has become the ultimate traveler. I could never have imagined how well she’s adapted. There are times when it would be nice to do things without her, that we can’t now, but we love her to death!
I don’t know how I missed this post, but I’ll be Johnny come lately! Well, it seems that if you didn’t know how to be flexible before, you’re getting a lesson in it now, Brooks! But, hey! At least it’s the Florida coast. We folks in the Carolinas haven’t dipped down into the very cold temperatures just yet, but I’ve been to Florida and, North Carolina, you’re no Florida! :D Enjoy.
Hey, Paul, it’s just good to hear from you…late or not! :-) I’ve never used to be very good at “quick” change and I’ve often laughed about it and said…”Give me three days” that being about how long it took me to get my head around something. However, you’re right on the mark that this year has gone a long ways in teaching me flexibility and adaptation. Part of it is just learning that very little really matters. We’re heading north tomorrow and should be back in the Salisbury area on Sunday evening…staying there a week for appointments then moving to Ft. Mill, SC for a few more weeks. I’m kinda looking forward to being back in jeans and wearing a jacket…I think I remember when I hid them? :-)
Well, I look forward to seeing you when you get down to Fort Mill, SC, right around the corner from me. If I have my dates right, that puts you in my neck of the woods during Thanksgiving week. I’ll still be around until December 5th, then it’s wheels up! See you soon. If you and Tom decide on something, please let me know.
