We’ve stopped at Huntington Beach State Park, Murrells Inlet, SC to enjoy a few days along the coast. On vacations we’ve visited the park enjoying its rustic undeveloped beauty so we thought it would be nice to take a little more time to enjoy it while traveling south.
This first drive was about 280 miles with only one minor incident, which will be filed in the category of lessons learned. Going into something like this I expected no less.
It was a very brisk morning as we took Maggie for her first walk along the beach — she loved it — running and playing for all she’s worth. She really got into it on the second sunset walk. She’s doing extremely well with all this.
Everyone has their own style of camping. The couple staying in the site next to ours has much more basic and smaller taste. It’s nice mid-week February with not too many people here but this coming weekend the temperatures are suppose to reach 70℉ on Sunday, no doubt increasing the “population.”
The waters are wonderfully clear with abundant waterfowl
More waterfowl seen along our walk.
So, after the first two days what’s our impression? Well, at this very early stage we are loving the simplicity and freedom. The RV is feeling more like home, we’re sleeping well at night and the days are good. Yes, it’s very, very early and maybe our opinions will change — but then again, maybe they won’t! ;-)
Seeing these photos is a reminder there are parts of the country not covered in snow and ice. :-)
I imagine there is some symbolism and parallels of Maggie’s new found freedom and playing on the beach to your own big step!
Mark, yeah, it’s a rough winter for you folks up north — only a little colder then normal here to the south. We expect to head further south the first part of next week, eventually parking someplace in Florida while we get our residency taken care of.
All three of us have certainly been through changes and no doubt will continue to do so on this adventure — makes getting up each morning kinda fun. Lots of smiling taking place around here!
Fantastic, Earl. I look forward to seeing more as you head south, or west, or whichever direction that you choose.
Thanks, Paul. Except for overall goals, planning is usually for a couple of days out at this point so I couldn’t tell you for sure what direction this year may bring. :-) We only know we need to visit FL for a while to change our residency.
I’m really enjoying reading about your new adventure. The best restaurant in the world is in Murrell’s Inlet- Lee’s Inlet Kitchen.
Kent, great hearing from you — it’s been a long time. Glad you’re enjoying follow this, I’ve enjoyed keeping up with your blog as well. Yes, we’ve eaten at Lee’s Inlet Kitchen and may do so again this weekend. There’s a lot of great food around here. Take care my friend and thanks for stopping by and commenting.
It just occurred to me how we’re about to be treated to an amazing variety of photographs because of this new lifestyle of yours. And just going by this post, it’s off to a great start! :)
I hope so Cedric. If at the end of this adventure it could be said there were an “amazing variety of photographs” captured, I’d be happy with that summation — hopefully some of them would be good and some of them would demonstrate my own personal artistic efforts. Thanks!
Where’s the snow? It’s February for gosh sakes. Yes, it’s early to really know how you will enjoy this lifestyle. I’m hoping it is more than what you could ever imagine. I’m also interested in seeing what images you will be sharing with us. And, those stories you will share already bring a smile to my face. I would be interested in also knowing what Maggie thinks about this new lifestyle. Running along the beach has broadened her life. Looking forward to more.
Monte, I don’t dare ask about where’s the snow…I’m just glad it or ice are not here. We hadn’t originally thought to be on the road this early so we’re grateful there’s been no frozen stuff yet. All of this is giving Maggie exposure to so much more then she ever had before…lots of dogs, more people, etc. She seems to be loving it and thriving in her new environment…as are we!
As I was packing the trash can to the curb the other day in the middle of a major rain storm, it hit me that Earl no longer has to do such things. What a lucky guy you are!
Steve, yelp, no more trash cans to be taken to the road, no more yard to be mowed, no more house to be painted, no more scrubs to be trimmed, and no more leaves to be raked…to name a few chores. I have some new chores for sure…but not too many. I know I’m a lucky guy and I’m grateful every minute for it!
What a marvelous adventure you have embarked on! As I said before, you two are my heroes and I am so glad you are doing this blog as I plan to take notes for our own foray into your footsteps in about 10 years…and counting!
Thanks, Liz. We give you a lot of credit for making this dream even possible. I think you’ll notice when pictured all “three” of us look mighty happy — can’t stop smiling.
